This procedure is intended to solve an issue with the very first machines sent to kickstarter backers. On some machines, the motor pulleys screws on the XY axis and the coupler screws on the Z axis got loose after some time

For this procedure, you will need:

- A 2mm Allen key

- A Philips screwdriver

- Threadlock (eg Blue 242 Loctite found at Home Depot)

1. Remove the base plate

a. Unscrew the 3 screws on the top right hand corner and on the top left hand corner

b. Use the Allen key to unscrew the two screws on the bottom left and on the bottom right

2. Remove the XY Gantry

a. Place zim on its back

and the base plate as indicated on the picture below

b. Disconnect the power button connector from its connector on the base plate

c. Remove the plastic cover by pulling strongly

d. Remove the teflon tubes

Push the teflon tube so that it's parallel to the rods

Pop the tube out from the head holder

Pull the tube out from the filament housing retainer

e. Disconnect the led strips on the right and on the left. If you can't disconnect the led strips cable properly, contact us and we will send you two replacement led strips.

e. Remove the XY Gantry by pulling it alternatively from the top and from the back

f. Place your XY Gantry on the table

3. Disconnect:

- the Z Axis connector

4. Put some threadlocks on the two screws of each pulley

a. Identify where the two pulleys are

b. You can move the head manually in order to access the screws of the pulley

c. Verify that one of the pulley screws is lightened on the motor axis.

d. Unscrew

e. Put a generous amount of threadlock on the screw

f. Screw it back

g. Repeat the same procedure for the other screw

h. Repeat the same procedure on the other pulley

5. Untighten the two screws at top of the Z Axis and the two screws at the bottom of the Z Axis

6. Pull the Z Axis out of the frame

7. Identify the four screws above the motor

8. Unscrew them

9. Unscrew one at a time each the four screws on the coupler. Make sure that on each side one of the screws is tightened on the flat part of the axis.

10. Put a generous amount of threadlock on these screws and screw them back

11. Screw back the motor on its support

12. Re-install the Z Axis back in the frame

13. Wires need to come out underneath the frame and should not obstruct the movement of the Z motor assembly. Tighten the four screws.

The distance indicated by the arrow in the picture below is 10.6mm.

14. Replace the XY Axis

15. Reconnect the power button connector

16. Reconnect the Z Axis connector

17. Screw the base plate back
